Day 23 of 365

We went to a another birthday party today. This time it was the birthday of one of our church friends - Andrew. Old guy turned a whoopin' 25 today. ha
I asked him how he felt ,he replied " Not a bit different." and i said "Just wait until you hit 30 - it's all down hill from there." haha
So Enjoy your last 5 years of youth while you can. :-)
(just kidding ,of course. ;-) )

We had a great time. His mom made a very delicious potato salad and rice. I'm guessing it was Nicaraguan rice? I'm not sure but it was SOOO good. mmmmm
It had olives in it , among other ingredients...- and i don't like olives, at all , but i loved them in that rice. Weird, huh? ;-)

Here is a picture of his birthday cake.
( i didn't eat any because i was stuffed with rice and potato salad. ;-) )

I forgot to mention that it was a surprise party! He had no idea that everyone gathered at his parents house right after church. I would say the surprise part was a full success and his wife, Amber, did an awesome job executing it ! Great job Amber! :-)

Day 22 of 365

My daughter and i went to our friend's house today to celebrate her daughter's 1st Birthday. We had a lot of fun. My daughter had a blast playing with all the other kids and i enjoyed my time around adults. ;-)
It was a good day.
Here are a few pictures of the birthday girl and her first birthday cake.

Hmm?? This is cake?

Let me touch that. Careful.

Taste it. Hmmm...not quite sure just yet.

Let's try that again with a spoon.

What are you looking at? Don't even think about it. That's my cake.

This stuff's pretty yummy.

Thanks for giving me spoons full of this delicious sweet stuff, Nana. You're the best.

Look. All gone. Mmmmm

I LOVE birthday's. Especially mine. We should do this more often.

Want some, Nana?

HA! Tricked you ! Allll mine !!! muahahaha

She is such a ham. Just like her big sister. They're both way too cute and funny.

Day 17

I took this picture back in February of this year.
It was my first attempt to try and get a somewhat decent picture of the stars in the sky but since we live in the city , small city but still a city and there are just too many light sources around us - street lights and a well lit school across the street. That makes it difficult to get a really nice, crisp looking pictures of the stars. I tried anyways and this was the end result:

Not too bad i would say. ;-)
Even though i was in the backyard and some of the light blocked , you can still see it though.

Day 15 of 365

Almost forgot to post a picture for today. :-(
Today's photo is from my cell phone. It's not a fancy phone and the mp's (mega pixel) are in the single digits...haha..but the pictures do look ok on the small cell phone screen. I finally got a USB cable for it and downloaded all the pictures i had on there - all 200 of them ;-)

This photo is of my beautiful little baby girl, well not really a baby anymore but she'll always be my baby, no matter how old she is.

I zoomed in and cropped it a bit, made it b&w and then added some more light and a bit more contrast and i think it came out pretty good - at least on the phone.:-)

I hope it doesn't look to pixel-y on your computer screen?

Day 14 of 365

Teeny, tiny Dragonfly we saw today.

Day 13 of 365

There was a thunderstorm today. Very close to our house but not close enough. I felt , i think, maybe 2 rain drops?..and that was it. At least i hope they were rain drops!? ;-)
It really did look like it does on the photo below. The sky was dark looking one direction and behind me the sun was out with partial blue skies.
I love the contrast of the dark blue sky in the back round and the sun in the foreground. I think it looks beautiful. :-)

Day 9 of 365

My Church !!!

I love my Church.
I love every single member.
They are my family.
This is where i - we - belong.

A few years ago, my husband and i went to a different church for a while. Gas prices were too high for and we couldn't afford the trips to our church anymore. The other church was nice, they were friendly and welcoming and all but it just didn't feel right. You know what i mean?
After Hannah was born, we decided that we needed to go back to our church because i felt like that this was the place where God wanted us to be and this is where we belonged. And he was right. We do belong there and i couldn't imagine my life without them.
Our pastor and his wife are two of the most god loving, god fearing , helpful , kind, loving, smart, funny, understanding and amazing people you'll ever meet. They have helped us through some very tough times throughout the last 4+ years and we're very thankful for everything they've done for us. We don't know what we would have done and what we would do without them!!!
I'm not sure if they'll be reading this or not but if they do: We love you Bro.&Sis. Scott and thank God for you for being in our lives !!!

Day 8 of 365

I've been trying to lower my blood pressure for several months now. I have been eating much better and also started exercising as often as i can. I'm also on blood pressure medication, for a little extra help. ;-)
Today, i took my blood pressure and was amazed at the result. Before starting with medicine (and other changes), my blood pressure used to be in the 140's and 150's and last time i checked it , it was in the 120's and to see it below that number today made me very happy. :-)
I must be doing something right.

Day 7 of 365

Watermelon
There are more than 1200 varieties of watermelon ranging in size from less than a pound, to more than two hundred pounds, with flesh that is red, orange, yellow or white.
A watermelon contains about 6% sugar and 92% water by weight. As with many other fruits, it is a source of vitamin C, Magnesium, Phosphorus ,Potassium, Calcium and more. (source:wikipedia)
They are also VERY delicious and a great summertime snack.
Mmmmm

Day 5 of 365 - 7.6.2011

RAIN !!!! Again !!
Thank you Lord !!!

We received a really nice soaking rain shower today. YAY
I think i heard our grass and trees breath a (temporary) sigh of relief. ha ha
Unfortunately my rain gauge broke so i don't know how much rain we actually got but if i had to take a guess, i would say aprox. 1 inch or so. Still no drought buster but it's better then nothing.

Day 4 of 365 - Tasty Taco Tuesday

Day 3 of 365 - 4th Of July, 2011

What is the 4th July ?

"Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia. After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a Committee of Five, with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised the Declaration, finally approving it on July 4. A day earlier, John Adams had written to his wife Abigail:

" The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more. "

Adams' prediction was off by two days. From the outset, Americans celebrated independence on July 4, the date shown on the much-publicized Declaration of Independence, rather than on July 2, the date the resolution of independence was approved in a closed session of Congress.

Day 2 of 365

Heat, a broken down Truck and the kindness of strangers.

That's how i would title the day we had today.
On our way to church, our truck decided today would be a great day to over heat and panic it's drivers, especially the female one - Me ! ;-)
I didn't think it was so funny.
We pulled over into a side street because at that point the check engine light was a bright red, the needle for the thermostat gauge was at the red mark - if not beyond - AND steam was coming out from underneath the hood, a couple in their Truck stopped and asked us of we needed help. Hubby replied, "Naw, thanks. It's just a hose that came lose." Well,it wasn't just a lose hose.
To make a long story short, someone from our church came and picked up Hannah and me and the man in the truck from earlier came back and he and hubby ,temporarily, fixed the problem. YAY
Thank you kind stranger. Whoever you are! We'll say a prayer for you tonight.
After church we went to a auto parts store where hubby bought the piece he needed to repair our truck and after 30 minutes or so he had it fixed and ready to go. Poor guy had to do all that outside in 100+ weather while Hannah and i waited inside the cool store. :-)
I'm sure glad and thankful that he knows a thing or two about fixing stuff. I might keep him around?! haha..just kidding...i'll never give him up. :-)

Here's a picture from hubby and the kind stranger trying to fix our truck.

I sure used the word "fix" a lot in this post, huh?
Haha...oh well , that's what happens when you live in Texas. You "fix" instead of 'repair' :-)

Until tomorrow.

RAIN !!!...and a new 365 Photo Project 7/2/2011

It's been quiet here - on my blog AND weather wise.
We have been dealing with a severe drought for months now. The last measurable rain was June 22nd, with a whooping 1.5 inches. That's merely a drop in a bucket if you consider that my Town has a rain fall deficit of approx. 23 inches - that's for the entire year of 2011. Our average rain fall amount for January through July is around 34 inches.
Today, July 2nd, we were blessed enough to receive another rain shower. YAY
It was a short one but very welcomed. Sadly though, it wasn't enough to even come up to the first line in my rain gauge. Oh well, the year isn't over and we just started hurricane season. ;-)

I'm also starting a new project today. A 365 photo project. My plan is to post one picture every day for 365 days! Hopefully a few of them will be weather related! ;-)
I've seen friends do it and i loved it. I love to look at other peoples pictures and read about the stories behind them. Hopefully i will be able to do the same and keep it up for 365 days.
We shall see !

Today's picture involves the small rain shower from earlier today. Even though it wasn't much, i'm sure our trees, plants and shrubs loved every single drop. :-)

Until tomorrow.
